Councilman Colburn

Councilman Billy R. Colburn
Elected to the City Council in 2016
Liaison for: New Hope Volunteer Fire Department, New Hope Senior Center and Elizabeth Carpenter Public Library of New Hope

I am a lifetime resident of New Hope and a graduate of New Hope High School. I have been married to Janice Talley Colburn for 47 years and have been a member of First Baptist Church of New Hope for over 40 years. I retired from Madison County Commission after 35 years of service and served as a firefighter with the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.

Being a former volunteer firefighter myself, I know the dedication, devotion and risk that comes with this work. We owe a great debt of gratitude to these men and women that do such a wonderful job and provide us with the peace of mind to know that we are protected no matter the time of day that we have need. My goal is to work with and support the Fire Chief and all volunteer members so that we may continue to grow and expand the professional ability of our great department.

The New Hope Senior Center is an invaluable asset to our seniors. The sense of community and togetherness that is provided through this facility and its staff is a great source of comfort to those who are looking to build friendships and provide support through outings, games or lunch activities. I look forward to providing as much assistance as possible through city resources to continue this great work.

Our Elizabeth Carpenter Public Library continues to be a staple of our community. The library has grown in both size and available resources and words cannot describe how its presence has impacted the citizens of our city. The library also provides a sense of community while helping to provide education resources to those who might not otherwise have access to. As the liaison for the library I will continue to work with those leaders to see that this wonderful resource is supported as much as possible.

It is both an honor and privilege to serve as a council member for this wonderful city that so many of us call home. If ever I can be of assistance, or if you might have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
