Inspections

Residential – $50.00 per inspection
Commercial – $75.00 per inspection

In order to obtain a permit for any of the work listed above:

New Residential / Commercial building permits – You must submit a completed permit application, pay permit fee plus number of inspections required (cash, check, money order or MC/Visa/Discover card) and submit plot plan and building plans in duplicate. Please allow 3-5 business days for review of application and plans prior to permit being issued.

All Other Type Permits – You must submit a completed Miscellaneous permit application, pay permit fee plus number of inspections if required (cash, check or money order or MC/Visa/Discover card) prior to permit being issued.

  • For questions regarding permits, or to schedule an inspection; please contact Lacy Smith, Permit Clerk at 256-723-9225 during normal business hours Monday – Friday between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
  • Residential inspections are done Monday – Friday after 4:00 pm
  • Commercial inspections are done Monday – Friday after 5:30 pm
  • Once final inspection has passed and Certificate of Occupancy has been issued, Huntsville Utilities requires up to 48 hours to turn power on.
