Mayor Butch Taylor
Mayor Butch Taylor has been a resident of New Hope, Alabama for most of his life. He graduated from New Hope High School and received a BS degree in Science from Florence State University, which is now known as The University of North Alabama and was employed by the Huntsville City Board of Education and the Madison County Board of Education as a Teacher/Coach for 31 years. Two years were spent in the Huntsville City School System and the remaining 29 years until retirement were spent at New Hope High School and New Hope Middle School teaching and coaching Basketball. He is married to his wife Rhonda and is the proud father of one son Jake and three grandchildren and three step-children and one step -grandchild. Prior to being elected as Mayor of the City of New Hope, Alabama, he served on the New Hope City Council from 2000 to 2002 as the liaison for the Volunteer Fire Dept. In 2002 he was elected to the Madison County Board of Education as the Board Representative for District 3. He also had the honor of serving as Vice-president and President of that Board. In 2006 Mayor Taylor was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives representing House District 22. He was elected as the 2007 Freshmen Representative of the Year. Mayor Taylor was also appointed by the Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives to the prestigious Education Appropriations Committee that writes the Education Budget for the State of Alabama. In 2012 he was elected to the position of Mayor for the City of New Hope Alabama. Since being elected, Mayor Taylor and the members of the City Council have worked together to build a community safety shelter, create a budget from which to operate the city finances, obtained a sewer grant to up grade and repair parts of the city sewer system, refinanced the water bond to save the city more money and recruited a dentist to our community. In the future more things are planned with the goal to make our city the best it can be.
